Build your bridal kit: brands worth it & where to shop

By Laveena · Notes from the chair · 6 min read

"Ma'am, which products should I actually buy?" After years of this question, here is my honest, no-sponsorship shopping map: the brands that earn their place in a bridal kit, and where to buy them without getting fooled.

The lip drawer: start here

If you buy nothing else, buy one great lipstick. MAC remains the bridal gold standard: Ruby Woo for the classic blue-red, Velvet Teddy for the everyday nude, Diva for reception drama. Maybelline gives you most of the performance at a fraction of the price: Touch of Spice is the most-photographed mauve in India for a reason. Homegrown Nykaa and Sugar matte formulas hold their own through a full dinner.

Lipsticks and cosmetics arranged with fresh flowers
A small, well-chosen kit beats a drawer of impulse buys, every time.

Base and skin: where quality shows

This is where I tell brides to spend: a well-matched long-wear foundation, a reliable concealer, and a setting spray you have actually tested in heat. For honest value, Maybelline Fit Me is hard to beat; for special-day coverage, the premium counters earn their price. Blush and highlight: Lakmé and Colorbar make lovely wearable options.

Eyeshadow palette and brushes on a dark surface
One good neutral palette outworks five trendy ones.

Eyes: one palette, chosen well

Skip the twelve-palette collection. One warm neutral palette with a shimmer or two covers every ceremony from haldi to walima. Waterproof kohl and a tubing mascara are the non-negotiables: they are what survive the vidaai.

Where to actually shop

Swatch on the jawline. Test in sunlight. Sleep on it. Real shades do not need a filter to convince you.

The bride's minimum kit

For your own touch-up bag on the day: your lip shade, blotting papers, a mini compact, and cotton buds. Everything else is your artist's job: that is what you booked me for. If you want your personal list tailored to your skin and your outfits, book a consultation and we will build it together in twenty minutes.
